These investments along with a HDFC Bank which has been a 30% compounding machine account for more than 90% of Basant's stock market activity by value. Hence, these are not an offshoot of any survivorship bias where people do five hundred investments and report the top ten or top twenty bets that worked out for them. The only time where the author has lost serious money was in Voltas in 2008. Otherwise the losses have been more of profits because of an inability to sell at the top than about the originally invested capital.

The March 2013 issue of Reader's Digest covered him as part of their lead story titled "Secrets of Self Made Millionaires".
